Who we are
The rendering of Military Funeral Honors is a way to show the Nation's deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country. This ceremonial paying of respect is the final demonstration a grateful Nation can provide to the veteran's families.
The 1st Memorial Honors Detail (1MHD) performs military funerals in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, California. This MHD is part of a nation wide military society known as the 1st U. S. Volunteers. This MHD has members from each branch of service. The 1MHD Ventura has provided military honors for 285 veterans since January 2004. Our organization is committed to honoring the service of all US Military personnel who have served our nation during times of war and peace. We believe all veterans deserve to be honored with military dignity. We step forward when the active military is unable to complete the request. Military funeral honors usually includes folding and presenting the United States burial flag, the playing of TAPS and at the cemetary the firing of three rifle volleys of blank ammunition. The ceremony can be modified for either cemetary, funeral chapel, religious setting or any other venue fitting the family situation.
